GENERAL CHARACTERS DESCRIPTION AND DIFFUSION

The embankment and the areas for water harvesting were built since the first hominids. Hunter-gatherers from the Australian district of Southwestern Victoria carried out a complex netowrk of ditches and embankments crossing a six-hectare area bordering on the mountain slopes on one side and the lands subject to flooding on the other side. It consists of a network of channels conveying water from the mountains, drainage systems, regulating moisture levels in humid areas and a huge maze-like network of ditches, understood to have been a trap for eels.
