In hunter-gatherer groups women held and conveyed knowledge on the powers of plants. 

General characters description and diffusion

In the social formation of the hunter-gatherers women played a significant role as bearers and conveyors of knowledge. As a matter of fact, they learnt about berries, roots, edible larvae and the plants' powers, their vegetative energy, the power of life in a seed and its disposition to reproduce and be cultivated.; and they learnt to store and carry plants as well. 

Advantages and sustainability

The knowledge of plants and animals as well as the knowledge on how to store them and harvest them was useful to the survival of human populations.
