Definition characters description and diffusion
On the slopes, the water flow is intercepted by terraces made of either stone or with terrain modeling (Edge nature). Little channels and cisterns distribute and collect the water slide.
General characters description and diffusion
The organization of the slopes, to control water flows, is certified by the end of the prehistory of the areas before neolithization, as at Jericho, and pre-Columbian America. The technique is widespread in all Mediterranean areas in arid and semi-arid areas. In wetlands, terraced fields become functional flooded areas and types of cultivation like in the Asian rice fields.
Advantages and sustainability
These types of construction distribute water and use the slopes and the organization of the structures themselves to control water flows. These make cultivation possible.
