GENERAL DEFINITION OF THE TECHNIQUE
Technique: GARDEN TOWN

Definition characters description and diffusion

The traditional historical centres in southern Italy and the Maghreb constitute an intensive and concentrated model of settlement typical of the Mediterranean organisation system that works in a close relationship with the agrarian landscape and which acts for the latter as a grain store, trade emporium and as a service organisation centre.

General characters description and diffusion

They integrate green areas by achieving a significant thermal balance and creating the most favourable microclimate. Practices are reused by bioarchitecture and modern city planning.

Advantages and sustainability

Garden towns are beneficial because they create a microclimate where grain can be stored, trade can be carried out, and services can be organized in communities.
